Injection Lipolysis

Injection Lipolysis

Injection lipolysis is also popular as mesotherapy, which requires multiple fine injections of active ingredients into the treatment area beneath the skin to apparently melt away the fat and expel it from the body. The basic theory behind lipolysis is that the ingredients together makes the fat to liquefy and dissolve, and eliminate them from the body. This treatment can be an effective treatment to remove pockets of fat on the face, neck, and body. Unlike surgery, this treatment is a simple procedure and includes no post-operative recovery time or wearing of compression garments. Currently, it is an FDA approved treatment for the area underneath the chin to eliminate the double chin appearance.

The cosmetic application of injection lipolysis includes the removal of small, stubborn, unwanted pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. It can effectively reduce the lower eyelid fat pads, double chin and jowl areas and sculpt the body to bring a defined body contour. However, lipolysis is not a weight loss regime and to maintain the results it is important to lead a healthy lifestyle. Patients may also choose to combine lipolysis with tumescent liposuction to achieve the best results.

Injection lipolysis is a cosmetic procedure which uses a mixture of drugs that is injected into the patients with a goal of breaking down fat. In this technique, a substance phosphatidylcholine (PPT) and sodium deoxycholate are injected into the skin or in the subcutaneous fatty tissues to dissolve the fat cells. Some treatments also contain vitamins in the injection solution. This melts down the fat deposits which are then eliminated by the body.

The PPT is usually injected intravenously into the body to prevent any sort of blockages by fat particles and also to protect the liver. The active substances are injected with very thin needles to only soft target areas like belly, face, the inner side of the thighs, back of the hips, etc.

injection lipolysis achieves a very good result on cellulitis. The number of treatment sessions required depends from person to person and the amount of fat accumulation, body size and the area of treatment. Generally, two to four sessions at an interval of two months may be required to achieve a completely satisfactory result.

Immediately after undergoing the procedure, most of the patients feel a slight pricking sensation for the first two hours. Some patients may also feel a burning and itching sensation in the area of treatment. Few patients may need medications to eliminate pain on the first night of the treatment. Some of these adverse reactions like firmness, thickening of the skin may last for up to three weeks. The results are visible after the first or second treatment session.

Side Effects

The injection lipolysis may also include some side effects like skin necrosis, ulcers and severe bacterial infections. Granuloma or chances of chronic infection are prevalent, though rare. Scarring may also be considered as one of the biggest side effects of this treatment. But it is believed that maintaining a proper hygiene during the procedure and undergoing injection lipolysis under trained injectors can reduce the possibilities of rising complications and risks.
